Walk, Knock, and Talk to Voters in CA-13 and CA-22

IndiMarin is recruiting volunteers to canvass in CA -13 and CA-22 with two key partners: the California Democratic Party (CADEM) and Bay Area Coalition (BAC). Both districts have very close races where we can have a major impact.

Face-to-face interactions with voters are widely considered THE most impactful way to influence an election.
IndiMarin, together with our canvassing partners, has developed a smart, focused approach that maximizes impact and offers a gratifying volunteer experience.

The Stakes: We lost California's 13th Congressional District by 564 votes in 2022 and we lost California’s 22nd District by less than 3% of the vote. In both cases voter turnout was very low. These districts are top priorities for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. To take back the House this year, we need to win these races! And to do that, we need to start contacting voters now. Our mission is to prompt marginal voters to turn out and vote for Democrats.

HOW WE MAKE CANVASSING WITH US EASY ANF FUN

Walk Team Leaders, George and Alexa, are a personal point of contact for IndiMarin volunteers and will help cultivate a growing team for camaraderie and mutual support.

  • A concierge team handles your trip logistics—carpooling, EV charging, etc.

  • At the event, an onsite team has all of the materials you need for a successful day of canvassing.

  • There is weekly online training, plus orientation at the event site.

  • We use an easy app for navigating neighborhoods and capturing voter data.

  • We only visit Democratic households.  Republican households are not on the lists.

  • We canvass in pairs for mutual support. Additional team support is a quick call away.

  • If you’re new to canvassing, you can watch your partner work until you feel comfortable.

WHY IT’S ENJOYABLE

Our Walk Team members have found canvassing to be an enjoyable outing with like-minded friends and colleagues while making a difference.

  • We connect with and have meaningful conversations with people outside our Marin bubble.

  • We know face-to-face interactions with voters have the greatest impact on voter engagement and turnout.

  • We have an opportunity to help people in need. Canvassers recently have assisted residents by contacting local authorities who can help with issues such as food insecurity, healthcare assistance, and more. Canvassers can also help voters fill out their ballots or register to vote.

  • Often we meet the local candidates, including congressional candidates

  • We finish with a sense of accomplishment and the confidence that we have done something meaningful and impactful for our state and country!
