IndiMarin’s Electoral Strategy:
How We Select Our Priority Races

Our Commitment to Volunteers:
When you volunteer your time with IndiMarin, you will be working only in the most competitive races in the country and those crucial to either taking back the House, retaining the Senate, or re-electing  President Biden and Vice President Harris.

Our Electoral Focus

  • Toss-up Races: Research demonstrates that phone banks, postcards, and texts have the greatest impact on turnout in races considered a statistical tie (commonly referred to as “toss-up” races).

  • The House: California is nationally recognized as the path to regain the House with five toss-up races, the most of any state in the country. As a CA-based group, we are committed to working in these five districts - CA-13 and CA-22 in the Central Valley, CA-27, CA-41, and CA-47 in Southern California.

  • The Senate: We will be working in one of the seven toss-up Senate races with consideration given to those geographically close to us or with a high need for out-of-state support. These include AZ, NV, MI, MT, OH, PA, and WI.

  • The White House: We are a Biden-Harris Phonebanking Hub and will be partnering with the DNC in their priority presidential areas: AZ, GA, NV, MI, NC, PA, and WI.

How We Choose Our Campaigns

  • Our Steering Committee and voter outreach teams meet on a regular basis to develop and monitor our campaigns and programs.

  • We consult with universally recognized professional rating organizations, such as the Cook Report, to identify Senate and CA House toss-up races.

  • We look at comparative in-district voter outreach resources and identify races that would benefit most from out-of-district support.

  • We look at electoral data over the course of the election cycle such as polls, financial filings, and up/down ballot events to evaluate our choice of target races.

  • We consider geography an important factor in our campaign selection as well.

    • Grassroots groups can maximize their impact across battleground House, Senate, and Presidential races by focusing on toss-up and other highly competitive races geographically close to them and partnering with local efforts.

    • For volunteers who live in a competitive district or state, we encourage you to work locally and can connect you with organizations in your area.

    • For volunteers who do not live in a highly competitive district or state, working on the California House races is a very strategic use of your time.

  • We will change course when circumstances warrant to maintain our goal of working with maximum impact at any given time in the election cycle.

How We Choose Our Partners

  • Our voter outreach teams work with established state and national organizations to obtain our voter lists, scripts, and outreach platforms.

  • We use platforms that are user-friendly and include strong technical support.

  • We partner with outreach organizations that provide updated and accurate  voter lists, use research-based messaging, and have the ability to reach a critical mass of voters.

  • We vet all platforms prior to establishing a formal partnership.
