On Sunday morning, over 1,500 Marin County residents, including many of you, walked in a solemn mile-long procession throughout the grounds of the Marin Civic Center to honor the victims of ICE killings and to demand “ICE Out of Marin.” Mourners wore black and brought flowers to leave at a makeshift memorial outside the county jail. They walked in silence carrying signs with photos of victims killed by ICE. Six handmade caskets were carried and an audio recording listing the names of those killed by ICE and those who died while in ICE custody was played throughout the procession.
The grief and rage was palpable on Sunday. If you weren't there, this one-minute video and moving photo gallery will give you a better sense of the passion and emotion which has activated so many Marin residents in the wake of the killing of Renee Good, the loss of 37 lives at the hands of ICE since Trump took office, and the ongoing terror that ICE is continuing to inflict on communities throughout our country. Media coverage of the Marin Civic Center event included the San Francisco Chronicle, the Marin IJ, the Novato Patch and KTVU.
As the invasion of Minneapolis by federal troops escalates, and Donald Trump threatens to invoke the Insurrection Act, we must act with urgency. Please consider taking any or all of the local and national actions outlined below.
TAKE ACTION IN MARIN:
A broad coalition of local groups is calling on the Marin County Board of Supervisors to do all within their power to stop the Marin County Sheriff's Office's shameful cooperation with ICE. More specifically, we have outlined our asks which include ensuring that Marin County cease to participate in the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP.) Through this program, the federal government pays a roughly $1,000 bounty to local law enforcement agencies for reporting information on undocumented immigrants in their custody. Over the past three years, our sheriff’s office has received over $1.2 million for jailing and reporting over 1,000 immigrants. Marin should follow the lead of Santa Cruz County, San Francisco County, Los Angeles County and Alameda County, all who have stopped participating in SCAAP.

TAKE ACTION WITH CONGRESS:
A coalition led by Indivisible National is specifically demanding that Members of Congress oppose any appropriations bill that includes increased funding for ICE or Border Patrol, and refuse to vote for any funding bill for DHS unless it:
Strengthens restrictions on ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to conduct dragnet arrest operations and target people based on their race, language or accent, place of employment, or location at the time of the apprehension;
Ends Border Patrol deployment to our cities and rejects its ever-expanding mandate in immigration enforcement; and
Limits DHS's reprogramming and transfer authority, including specifically preventing reprogramming and transferring funds for detention.
Please call your representatives today and ask them to make a public statement testifying to their agreement with the position outlined above. (Please save these numbers in your phone. We will need to be calling often.)
