Well, 2026 couldn't have gotten off to a worse start. We've all been following the very distressing news that the Trump administration, without alerting Congress first, invaded Venezuela and arrested its President, Nicolás Maduro and his wife, on charges stemming from a newly announced indictment in the Southern District of New York. This was a military strike on the capital of a sovereign foreign nation, in violation of the U.S. Constitution and the War Act.

In his address to the nation attempting to justify this incursion, Trump sets up the U.S. as the world’s policeman and says “we will run it [Venezuela] until there’s a transition.” How long will that take? Will this become another endless war if people in Venezuela object to U.S. imperialism? Trump made clear in his press conference that the administration's primary motivation for this unconstitutional action is oil. As always, Trump is following the money, no matter the cost to our country, to Venezuelans, and to the world order. Republicans in Congress largely applauded the decision. We the People do not.

Please call your Member of Congress and both Senators today or tomorrow to insist that Congress pass a War Powers Resolution without delay to prevent the Trump regime from taking further military action within or against Venezuela unless explicitly authorized by Congress. Calls TODAY will mean that Congress will arrive in DC to a JAMMED voicemail box tomorrow. Calls tomorrow may be answered live. If voicemail boxes are full today, call tomorrow. Or call both days! We want Congress to fully understand our horror and outrage.
