We've written to you continuously over the last several months about a TERRIBLE bill that will surrender control of California’s electricity grid to coal-loving western states by forming a new, permanent regional organization. This new regional organization WILL lead to higher electricity rates and a dirtier energy future with no escape ramp. It will also be under the control of Trump’s Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Our legislature, which promised to “Trump-proof” California, is doing the opposite!

We all have been calling our legislators repeatedly, raising the alarm! However, we have learned in the last two days that our calls are being ignored by our elected representatives in a process that is wholly undemocratic.

In backroom tactics and dealmaking, legislators have reconfigured the bill, now numbered AB 825. All of the protective amendments and safeguards in SB 540, which had been added by the Senate, were taken out. The new AB 825, designed without any public hearings or vetting, will lead to California consumers being fleeced by coal-dependent states and subject to the whims of Trump’s FERC.

Since the legislature couldn’t pass the bill through the proper procedures, they are now trying to sneak it through without public scrutiny due to the influence of powerful, monied interest groups.

Use your loudest voice TODAY to make clear that Californians expect a democratic process in our blue state!
