HELP PRESSURE GOP REPS
Influencing just a handful of Republicans to vote against the Trump agenda could significantly reduce the pending harms to millions of Americans! While calling Congressional Representatives other than one’s own is not a constructive tactic, those of us who live in blue states and districts CAN help put pressure on GOP reps to vote against the Trump agenda. We’ve listed below three crucial programs through with those of us in blue districts to help move the needle on legislative outcomes. The Republicans' narrow majority means a loss of just a few votes could make a difference.
ONE-TO-ONE OUTREACH
Even if you live in a blue state and district, you can influence Republican senators and representatives through One-to-One Outreach. This powerful tactic simply involves reaching out to your friends and family in red and purple states to have an open-ended conversation about the state of our country. Regardless of their political persuasion, some of them may express a level of discontent with how things are going since Trump took office. In these cases, this conversation provides you with a great opportunity to encourage them to contact their senators and representatives to express their unhappiness on any issues that matter to them. PHONEBANKS:
The California Democratic Party (CADEM) Is offering highly impactful phonebanks which focus on three California congressional districts held by Republicans. Volunteers ask voters to contact their representatives to urge them to vote NO on proposed healthcare cuts. These short-term phonebanks will be held multiple times a day from March 10th through May 30th, and training will be provided. Please sign up for as many phonebanks as possible!
Activate America is offering phonebanks into Republican districts in CA, PA, and AZ, asking voters to hold their elected officials accountable. These phonebanks are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 - 5 pm. SIGN UP
POSTCARDING:
Activate America is offering an accountability campaign focused on CA-22 which targets GOP Representative David Valadao’s support for cutting Medi-Cal (California’s Medicaid program). Sixty-seven percent of the residents in CA-22 receive Medi-Cal support, the most of any congressional district in the country. You can request addresses online or attend one of our in-person writing events listed below: The mailing deadline is May 21st. Similar campaigns are available in CA-40 targeting Rep. Young Kim, CA-41 targeting Rep. Ken Calvert, and in Ohio targeting Senator Jon Husted. The Ohio deadline is June 1st).
