STATE ELECTIONS: VA AND PA
WHY VIRGINIA? Virginia is one of 2 states who hold their statewide executive and legislative race elections in odd years. This year Democrats hope to take advantage of the strong anti-Trump movement to flip their top executive branch blue and increase their 1 seat majority in the state House. Virginia is a major battleground state and usually predicts the outcome of the following year’s midterms . This election gives Democrats a great opportunity to gain momentum going into 2026.

WHY PENNSYLVANIA? The current PA Supreme Court is a 5-2 Democratic majority. In PA, sitting supreme court justices have retention elections every 10 years. These are uncontested but if not retained by a majority of voters, a subsequent general election follows with the opportunity to remove that justice. In November, there are 3 Democratic justices in retention elections and Republicans are spending record amounts of money to remove them and regain control of the PA Supreme Court. This court will shape policy such as reproductive freedom and voting rights for the next decade in PA, a major battleground state.
