Democracy is under attack by the very people who are sworn to protect it. The solution? Experts on authoritarianism say that 3.5% of citizens are needed to successfully replace an authoritarian government. That means we need 12 million Americans to be actively engaged in this fight. In other words, we need YOU! And MANY other people just like you.

Since broad recruitment is crucial to the success of the Resistance, Indivisible Marin, along with our partners, is introducing a workshop designed for new activists. Our Activism 101 workshop introduces you to four ways you can contribute virtually to the Resistance movement.

At the workshop, you will choose from one of the four tactics listed below, and then join a breakout room with a mentor who will cover what you need to get started, provide a demonstration of the tactic, and offer a brief Q&A period. (Note: You will not be actively making calls or writing postcards at the workshop.)

You will choose one of these four tactics and learn how to:

Multiply your impact through relational organizing: Help reach the crucial 3.5% goal by reaching out to friends and encouraging them to join the effort. We will cover an easy toolkit with tips on reaching out 1:1 via open-ended conversations. We will also provide ideas for multiplying your impact by organizing your own gatherings and protests.

Write postcards to voters: Learn how to order your own supplies, scripts, and addresses. You’ll select from a variety of campaigns, including writing to voters in the upcoming Virginia elections or writing to voters in battleground congressional districts across the country with Republican representatives.

Make phone calls to voters: Phonebanking is one of the most effective methods we have to encourage civic participation! Also, today's phonebanking tools are easy to use and able to target Democratic voters. We will walk you through the phonebanking process, demonstrate a dialer platform, and have you listen in on a call with a voter. We will also provide signup links for active phonebanks, including phonebanks for the upcoming VA elections and campaigns contacting voters in battleground districts.

Call your Reps with the 5 Calls App: We should all be calling our representatives and senators regularly to hold them accountable – no matter what party they represent. We will introduce you to the easy-to-use “5 Calls” app which provides scripts and background on current issues to guide your calls. To demonstrate, your mentor will make calls while you listen in.
